The speculation surrounding the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a desert monolith. The secret is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is developing a fresh Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a audacious trailer packed with striking imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal unleashing of hell.
A Different Direction
Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian warned that a follow-up to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.
That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This phrasing hints that the team is likely crafting a more action-oriented experience instead of another tactical title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it sparked the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, branching plots, and deep class systems—elements that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities you can achieve with a specific type of character with a unique decision path.
The series is also famously flexible, enabling players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be completed in multiple ways, frequently in unexpected fashion.
